Vinyasa Flow: All Levels

This class is taught by:

Amy Gandy

CYT, RYT-200

Amy found her home in yoga many years ago beginning in the Inyengar tradition. The motivating force behind her teaching style is the use of breath to facilitate the meditative quality of moving to join body and mind. Thankful to have found a way to reach personal peace and balance on a regular basis, Amy is committed to helping her students deepen their own body body-mind connection through yoga, including achieving health and stress reduction. Her classes are nurturing, while they support personal and physical growth and evolution. Amy teaches Tuesday 8:30 am Vinyasa Flow, helps out at the front desk, often substitutes for other classes, and is available to teach Yoga privately.

Summer Baldwin

CYT, RYT-200
Summer is a professional dancer, actress and low-flying trapeze artist on the Gulf Coast. She received her BFA in Theater/Dance from Valdosta State University and worked professionally in New York City for 4 years. Summer completed her 200hr Yoga Teacher Training Certification in 2015 with Moira Anderson and Laura Tyree at River Rock Yoga. She has been teaching children and adults the joy of movement since 2006.

Mary Ann O'Gorman

CYT, RYT-500

Mary Ann has lived in Ocean Springs since 1991. She started practicing yoga in 2006 as a way to recover from the physical stress of Katrina, but found the practice transformational and decided to delve deeper into yoga by becoming a teacher. A graduate of the first class of Dragonfly Yoga coming out of River Rock, she has been teaching yoga since 2009. She is an E-500 hour RYT having trained at Kripalu Center for Yoga in Lenox, Massachusetts with Jonathon Foust, Larissa Hall Carlson, Devarshi Hartman, and Dr. Scott Blossom. Mary Ann also has a special interest in and is working on her certification to teach Trauma Center-Trauma Sensitive Yoga, through the Trauma Center in Brookline, Massachusetts. Off the mat, she writes poetry and fiction and is a writer with both an MA in literature and an MFA in creative writing. She has recently taken up surfing.

Buck Lawrence

CYT, RYT-200
His first personal yoga journal entry sort of sums up his yoga experience: "January 1, 2006---a new year---a real desire to take this practice of yoga into my very being. A longing to bring into my personal life a balance of my mind---my body---my soul. To seek that point where they are all in harmony with each other." That lead to his taking the teacher training program of Laura Tyree and Moira Anderson, to receiving the 200 hour certification from Yoga Alliance, to workshops with Doug Keller, Cora Wen, Baxter Bell, and others. He personally loves the discipline of ashtanga yoga, the sweat of hot yoga, and the calmness of yin yoga.

Buck enjoys teaching yin classes: the stress on the skeletal body (bones, joints, tendons, ligaments) the movement of the fascia (integrating mesh that envelops the bones, muscles, and organs) deep within, and the meditative long (up to five minutes) holds to the poses. He looks forward to the honor of having you participate in a class.

Moira Anderson

CYT, E-RYT 500, Certified Pilates Teacher, Director

Moira is a Certified, Professional Level Kripalu Yoga Teacher & Teacher Trainer, registered with Yoga Alliance at the E-500 hour Level. Sharing her love of yoga with students, directing programs and workshops at River Rock Yoga, and teaching workshops regionally, is her joy and her passion. Moira's classes offer students compassionate self-observation, gentle alignment cues and empowering vinyasa flow. Breath awareness and exploratory, joint freeing movement are also emphasized. The nurturing environment she creates in her sessions, as well as her understanding of anatomy and physiology, inspire a healthy, open body and a focused, relaxed mind.

"I encourage students to make peace with their bodies and to recognize their innate wisdom, and wholeness in class, and in their lives." Moira is continually inspired by the transformational, healing power, strength and peace generated by the practice of yoga. She sees the connection of mind, body and breath as means to be present in the here and now. Awareness of the present moment brings stillness and the ability to experience deep joy and contentment.

Moira is honored to have taken over 200 hours of alignment based yoga & philosophy workshops with Doug Keller. She has also studied with Erich Schiffman, and finds his freedom based yoga inspirational. Moira completed Shiva Rea's Vinyasa Flow Teacher training in 2004. It continues to be a major influence on her teaching style, as do her studies of Jivamukti yoga with Sharon Gannon & David Life. Moira teaches the energetic, body balancing core work of pilates, and is a Certified Pilates Instructor in the style of Balance Point Pilates.

Moira is a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists. She spends two days a week teaching therapeutic yoga at a psychiatric center, using yoga to assist adults and adolescents dealing with PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, OCD, ADHD and Substance Abuse.

An English literature graduate of The Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO, she minored in Performing Arts/Dance as well as Elementary Education, receiving an Elementary Teaching Certification.

Moira is a Certified Children's Yoga Teacher through The Asheville Yoga Center in Ashevile, North Carolina. She is co-director of the 200 hr Teacher Training Program at River Rock Yoga with Laura Tyree of Dragonfly Yoga, Fort Walton Beach, Fl., and co-teacher of the 500 hr program with J. J. Gormley of Surya Chandra Healing Yoga School.

Lyn Harper Cheney

CYT, RYT-200

Lyn’s search for peace and self-understanding led her to yoga more than a decade ago, and she continues that journey today as a yoga teacher and student. As a teacher, Lyn believes yoga is accessible to everyone, and she teaches from a place of respect for what each person brings to the mat. Her intention is to create a nurturing space that supports each student’s deep connection with self. Her teaching emphasizes breathing fully, moving mindfully, and practicing kindness and gentleness toward oneself. “I encourage students to listen within, to understand what they are seeking in the practice, to allow the practice to serve their highest good.”

Lyn trained through Dragonfly Yoga School at River Rock for her 200-hour certification and has been teaching since 2009. She gives many thanks to her teachers, including Moira Anderson, Laura Tyree, Nancy Allen, Susan Culpepper, Cheryl Catronbone, Baxter Bell, JJ Gormley, Chase Bossart, Cora Wen, Leif Anderson, and Suzanne Green River.

Amber Banks

CYT, RYT-200, MEdS, Master Naturalist

Amber was first introduced to yoga by her grandmother, Dorothy Booth when she was a pre-teen. She began a regular practice around the age of 22 while attending The University of Mississippi. She was first certified to teach Yoga and Pilates through the American Fitness Professionals Association in 1999. In 2010, Amber was a member of the first class of DragonFly Yoga. She is the mother of three young men and a wonderful little girl! Amber is a Biology teacher currently employed with the St. Martin school district. She loves using the practice of Yoga to quiet the mind, empower the body and release the spirit. She enjoys helping people uncover renewed awareness about their own bodies; as well as, personally, to melt away the stresses of being a mother, a wife, and a school teacher!

(Open to all except new beginners) A balanced, flowing series of poses, awakens the breath, balances the body and creates flexibility & strength. This warming, revitalizing vinyasa practice supports the various systems of the body, while quieting the mind. Sun salutations, standing poses, balance poses, backbends, twists and forward bends are used in unique combinations of pose/counterpose.
